Interactive Piano lessons with Ms Melissa

Melissa Quek, an experienced piano teacher and accompanist is offering both individual private piano lessons and group piano classes (max 6 in a class).

Melissa, who previously also graduated from the National University of Singapore, held a Bachelor of Social Science (Honors) in Sociology as well. Her thesis’s fieldwork, which involved observing students in schools has given her an all-rounded understanding of children’s behavioral patterns from different age groups. In 2004, she attained the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) piano Grade 8 and in 2016, her dipABRSM in instrumental teaching.

During her undergraduate years in Northwestern State University where she attained her Bachelor of Music (Piano Performance), she has been actively teaching private piano lessons under the NSU Music Academy and was the University’s concert choir accompanist. Her constant quest for knowledge coupled with her passion in teaching has widened her approaches towards teaching students with different abilities. As a dedicated and patient teacher, she believes in making her music classes enjoyable for children and maximizing their potentials to the fullest.

Melissa’s specialty includes teaching young children from the age of 4 and above. In addition, she has taught students from grade 1 to diploma level, adhering to the ABRSM standards. Her in-class activities for students include ear training, rhythm activities, note reading, music history, creative music writing (composition and improvisation) and singing.
