Full Description
Dr. Stephen Lim grew up as a competitive musician and, having earned a doctorate degree in music psychology from the National University of Singapore in 2010, is currently a music educator as well as a music psychologist.
Today, there is an ever-rising need to improve music education. Expensive technological applications have been recommended for improving music education, notwithstanding the lack of empirical support for their effectiveness.
In contrast, cognitive educational psychologists have discovered strategies that may significantly boost music teaching and learning, and yet these approaches are not usually announced in music education nor implemented in music schools.
In fact, music teachers often subscribe to educational practices which psychologists have established to be wrong, for instance, subjecting learners to Bach repeatedly in expecting them to master Bach when, in fact, teachers should intently intersperse Bach with Beethoven and Brahms (see, e.g., Wong, Low, Kang, & Lim, 2020; Wong, Chen, & Lim, 2020).
Of note, Dr. Lim actively conducts music education research which, in turn, informs and guides his teaching practices. In other words, Dr. Lim teaches the way he does not because he ‘feels’ it is effective, but because empirical evidence suggests it really is.
Dr. Lim has taught keyboard music since 1999 to students of all age groups, including adult learners, and previously served as keyboardist and band coordinator across very diverse settings, he possesses relevant abilities to mentor all keyboard-related musical genres.
Peers have described him as personable in working effectively with both students and their parents. On overall, he has the necessary wherewithal to contribute productively toward your musical dreams.
